East Journey

East Journey from N.E. Arnhem Land are the descendants of Yothu Yindi. They deliver an exciting fusion of guitar driven rock and acoustic mixed with the earthy tribal sounds of the yidaki and bilma.

Their performance  is alive with modern tribal rock vibes that integrates tribal dance to create an electric show that is truly original. East Journey’s latest release the EP titled ‘The Genesis Project’ is produced by LA legend Stevie Salas [Aerosmith, Mick Jagger, Parliament]. It’s a collaboration with their forefathers Yothu Yindi and has garnered accolades from all over the country. The band smashed it at the 2016 Bluesfest in Byron Bay winning over fans and media attention – “Arnhem Land-bred indigenous act East Journey combined traditional instruments (didgeridoos and clap sticks) with a drum-kit and guitars and the result was sublime.” TheMusic.Com

“The band and dancers were truly exceptional.” – LIFE MUSIC MEDIA
Lead vocalist Rrawun Maymuru penned the song 'Bayini' which gave Gurrumul his first No.1 ARIA Chart position. Winning 2015 NT Song of the Year [Rock category], 2014 ‘Film Clip of the Year’ at National Indigenous Music Awards for ‘Bright Lights Big City’ and the 2012 GR Burrarwanga Memorial Award at the NIMA’s, East Journey have firmly cemented their place as the Number #1 Indigenous live rock act to watch out for.
