Shellie Morris & The Borroloola Songwomen
Ngambala Wiji li-Wunungu [Together We Are Strong]

Best known nationally for her work with Black Arm Band, Shellie Morris is one of Australia’s finest Indigenous singer songwriters. She is a two-time winner of Female Musician of the Year at the National Indigenous Music Awards [NIMAs]. Her new album Ngambala Wiji li-Wunungu [Together We Are Strong] is said to be her most important work to date.

Musically this album merges Shellie’s contemporary vocals with that of her ancient ancestors. The choir of the Borroloola Songwomen and Shellie’s opera-trained voice combine to create a naturally expressionistic beautiful album of work. Although not as instant, this album has the same emotional connective qualities as that of Gurrumul.

Simply summed up Disc One is a sublime musical experience for those with a sophisticated taste for music. Disc Two is an anthropological journey featuring 60 songlines handed down orally since time began.

Ngambala Wiji li-Wunungu is a culturally rich and layered album that will appeal to purveyors of fine music.
