Liberation Music are pleased as punch to share the news of Dan Sultan’s wins at the National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMA’s) in Darwin over the weekend.
Sultan took out the coveted National Album of the Year award for his #4 ARIA debuting Blackbird, National Song of the Year for ‘The Same Man’ and National Cover Art of the Year for Blackbird (with thanks to Ken Taylor, who put the beautiful artwork together).
Since its release in April this year, Blackbird has performed consistently well, maintaining its position in the Top 100 of the ARIA Albums Chart and coming into the ARIA Mid-Year Album Chart at an impressive #50. The album – Sultan’s third – has won the talented Melbourne musician an abundance of attention over the past few months, appealing to a wide and diverse audience.
The awards night concluded an extensive national tour for Blackbird, one which saw Sultan traverse the country for the better part of two months and sell out numerous capital city and regional venues.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Sultan today confirms a handful of international dates in the US and UK, with forthcoming shows in New York, LA and London.
